Luang Prabang was once the capital of the Kingdom of Laos from the 14th century to 1975. Nowadays, Luang Prabang city is under Luang Prabang province and old capital of Laos recognized by UNESCO as world cultural heritage. Luang Prabang is 425 km to the North of Vientiane, by the Mekong River.
 
What attracts visitors to Luang Prabang is the peaceful beauty of the landscape, architecture and daily life here. The monks dressed in orange walking through the ancient streets in early mornings to beg  is probably the most characteristic image of Luang Prabang. Each tourist coming here tries to get up early to watch that peaceful and idyllic picture of the monks and wish to once bend the knee on roadside to bring food to them.

Laos is the country with the world’s highest rate of pagodas compared to national population. Therefore, there are many well-preserved ancient pagodas with beautiful architecture in Luang Prabang. And those pagodas and temples should not be missed by tourists who once come here.
 
In Luang Prabang, there is almost no high buildings. Residential houses are constructed in fairly uniform architectural style.
 
Just walking around through the old towns, you enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with secluded café on side of the road, street markets which sells a lot of characteristic handicraft souvenirs of Laos.
