Lonely Planet, the famous American travel magazine, just introduced the 10 most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. Do you agree with this ranking? Vietnam boasts a coastline of 3,400 km, hiding stunning and pristine beaches, not to mention several tropical islands with coral reefs offshore. Whether you're looking for a stretch of sand near one of the country's bustling cities, a family-friendly spot, or a quiet cove to escape the crowds, here are Lonely Planet's picks for the best beaches in Vietnam.
1. An Bàng
Just 3 km north of Hoi An, An Bàng is one of the most interesting and captivating beaches in Vietnam. It features a beautiful stretch of fine sand and a vast horizon (with fewer signs of serious erosion compared to Cua Dai), interrupted only by the distant Cu Lao Cham island.

2. Phú Quốc
Surrounded by white sandy beaches, Phú Quốc has quickly transformed from a quiet island into a must-visit beach resort for Westerners and sun-seeking tourists. With its picture-perfect white sand and crystal-clear waters, Bai Sao is perhaps the ideal choice.
Island tours explore the islands off the southern coast of Phú Quốc or the less-visited northern shores. Alternatively, take an affordable 8 km cable car ride from An Thới station to Hon Thom island for panoramic views.

3. Nha Trang
Forming a stunning wide arc, Nha Trang's 6 km long stretch of golden sand is the city’s crown jewel. There are designated areas roped off for safe swimming, where you won’t be disturbed by jet skis or boats.

4. Côn Đảo
The Côn Đảo archipelago is one of Vietnam's top tourist destinations. Côn Sơn, the largest island in the chain of 15 small islands, is surrounded by beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and bays, while still being partially covered by tropical forests.

5. Mũi Né
Once a gem of Vietnam's beach resorts, Mũi Né has recently faced severe erosion of its golden sands and overdevelopment that has diminished its charm. However, there are still some beautiful hidden beaches here, ideal (seasonally) for those who enjoy nightlife and sunbathing during the day. Kite surfing is also a popular activity. The opening of the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet expressway in mid-2023 has shortened the travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Mũi Né from 4.5 hours to just over 2 hours.

6. Dốc Lết
Stretching 18 km, Dốc Lết's powdery white sand and shallow turquoise waters ensure its ranking among Vietnam's most beautiful beaches. However, in recent years, strong development and an influx of tourists from Nha Trang have changed the area. Continuing north along the coast leads to more secluded spots like Bai Bau and Bai Xep.

7. Hồ Cốc
With golden sand, clear waters, and just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, this nearly 10 km beach north of Ho Tram is an attractive stop. While Hồ Cốc is becoming busier with weekend tourists, it still retains its tranquility during the week.

8. Mỹ Khê, Đà Nẵng
Mỹ Khê is quickly becoming the eastern suburb of Da Nang. In the early morning and evening, the beach is filled with locals exercising. Tourists arrive during peak sunbathing hours, while residents prefer the evenings; fishermen still head out from the sand in their round boats. The water can have dangerous undercurrents, especially in the winter.

9. Cát Bà
Rugged, remote, and lush with greenery, Cát Bà is the largest island in Ha Long Bay and a stopover for many cruises in the UNESCO-recognized area. As a result, this island near Hai Phong can get quite crowded, somewhat diminishing its tranquility; however, visiting during the quieter months reveals some of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. The three beaches of Cat Co Bay, just a 10-minute walk southeast of Cat Ba Town, are particularly ideal.

10. Mỹ Khê, Quảng Ngãi
Don’t confuse this Mỹ Khê with the one in Da Nang; this beach is located a few kilometers from the center of Quang Ngai and boasts a fantastic stretch of fine white sand. It extends for several kilometers along a narrow strip of beach lined with casuarina trees, separated from the mainland by the Kinh Giang River, with waters just inland. If you avoid holidays and weekends, you’ll have the chance to enjoy this beautiful beach all to yourself.
